This is a Guest Post by Mr. Brian Jens. We are thankful to Brian Jens for using our blog for his esteemed research.Brian Jens is not just a typical designer. The difference is that he carefully writes down his most bright ideas, makes researches, and then presents the results to the world.
Web design is constantly changes. Some of the new trends become “long-playing” ones, other appear for a little period of time only. So what to expect in 2016? How will design affect our lives in the next year? What will remain in trend, and what will go into oblivion?
It would seem that fashion should not be so important in the design of websites. However, we need just to compare several sites of “respectable” age with modern ones to understand that there’s a visible difference between them, and that’s not just about age “gap”. Many of the features, despite seemed to be right in the previous years, are obsolete today.
If you don’t want your visitors to spend more time on understanding the way of interaction with the site, you should keep it modern. Running beforehand, we can note than up-to-date site is creative, simple and fast.
Let’s go beyond the obvious boundaries and try to make a few predictions for 2016.
Gestures Instead of Clicks
We have already forgotten how difficult it was to scroll the page in the past: one had to drag the cursor to the right to use a scroll bar. Yes, it was very uncomfortable. Sure, being professional, at that time you may have used mouse wheel, trackpad, or cursor keys – and by this you may have been ahead of the majority of users.
In 2015 to scroll is much easier than to click. As a result, more and more websites will be built on the idea of superiority of scrolling over clicks. This trend will continue as mobile devices become more and more popular. In 2016 websites will have less space to click, but more abilities to scroll, as well as more buttons and large clickable areas along with the high pages that could be scrolled.
What about websites that split articles into multiple pages? They will transform into endless pages, or single page websites. Up to the date it’s unknown whether there will be a web on the watches – but if it’s so, it will certainly be controlled by gestures.
Acceleration and Simplification
Today even beginners know how to use tabbed browser and return to the previous page by gestures. As a result, everything accelerates, and a user becomes less tolerant. If you want to ruffle quiet man, please slow down the Internet.
Sites will become not just technically faster, but also easier to understand. Catching designs slow loading speed, while simple ones are fast and easier to glance over. The best design is the one from which you can enjoy faster. In 2016 users will be more receptive and less patient, so don’t slow them down by overload with information. https://www.designcontest.com/logo-design/ is a great example of how to combine speed and simplicity.
Mobile applications are ahead of the websites by offering minimalistic and beautiful interface. Minimalism works best! Flat design is just the beginning. The trend goes towards the immediateness and simplicity.
Effective Use of Vertical Space and Large Images
Scrolling does not cost anything; devices are very different in size – these two factors is the strong background for “Medium” design. Full-screen page titles along with the content that opens only after scrolling will dominate in 2016. By using high pages, designers will fill them with large beautiful pictures. 2016 is about more vertical space and more incredible images.
Pixels are Dead
In responsive design it’s all about grids and percents. But there’s one topic that still remains uncovered – bitmap images. Almost the whole web is built on images with a resolution of half of the screen, which are not scalable. However, it’s time for vector images, at least – on retina-screens and in modern browsers. Raster graphics come with icons based on the fonts and Material design from Google. They are ideal for designers and modern browsers.
As you see, the technology already exists, but it seems the majority of designers should be given a little bit more time to adapt, so that they could make sites for high-quality screen.
Animation is Back
To give the impression of the old site, you should just put there some gifs and flash-animation. But now animation is turned to the new form. As flat design looks somehow dejectedly, animation helps sites to stand out and put more information in the same space.
Mobile applications have changed user expectations. They use movements to convey meaning, and the sites are starting to make about the same. Technologies like CSS-animation simplify design improvements without the use of plug-ins or any problems with the speed and compatibility. Web components will accelerate this process.
2016 is a year when animation returns. And now it’s so easy to create and share it!
Storytelling
It means that a site should tell visitors a story – not literally, of course, but through sensations that arise in a person’s view point. For this purpose one can use linked within the meaning images or interactive scrolling. A reader should be a participant, not just a spectator. There are many ways to tell a story with the help of the design, and we think that in future this trend will be even more popular.
Video as a Background
Beautiful videos, not limited to a video player frame, look cool and replace traditional background images. And no wonder – background videos are fresh, beautiful, and fit well with the idea of storytelling, as mentioned above. Such a background refines the concept of the whole site, it revitalizes and creates momentum.
Website design is quite a responsible and important process for attracting users and promotion in the search engines. Follow the latest news and always be in trend! We wish you to create unique products, and the use of the above tips will undoubtedly help you in this!
